On the Mend

My hands are starting to feel better, so I think I will be able to pick up my sticks tomorrow. I've settled on the name for my local knitting group, Brown Skeins, and hope to get some women to join me. I created a group on Facebook, so I hope people sign up.

New Name! Brown Skeins

I have decided. It is Brown Skeins. What do you think?

Crafty Sistas in the Twin Cities

'm looking to start a knitting circle for women of color in the Twin Cities (that is Minnesota--the great North!). I know that sounds like a tall order, but I think it can be done. I'm struggling with the name a bit. Here are the candidates:

Sistas with Sticks

Brown Skeins

Crafty Sistas

Twin Cities Knitters of Color

BBK (Beautiful, Brown Knitters)

Whole Mess a String?
So what group would you join? Are there any sistas (women of color--any color) out there interested in getting together one day a month at a local coffee shop to knit and discuss current happenings? If so, hit me up at erykaj@yahoo.comand we'll see what we can pull together. Also, I got this idea from Black Purls, a group of women who get together in L.A. I asked if I could start a sub group and they were ok with it.

In Lieu of Knitting

Hi all,

Since my hands are still a bit sore tonight, I decided to block the scarves I've been working on instead of knitting. I've finished for the night and am on the phone with my darling heart Ron. we are talking about OJ. Whatever--he rarely comes up during a conversation about knitting, so there you go!

Scarf for Jane

Ok I have been really bad at posting. I admit it. I promise I will get better at it. Since my last posting about my knitting machine, Ive made about six scarves. Most are knitted, but a couple are crochet. One I made for my new sister-in-law Jane. She is really great and I think she will make a great addition to our family! She hosted Ron ( my darling honey) and I out in Oakland and took such good care of us, I felt it only right that I make her something by hand. So this gave me the perfect opportunity to use a soy painted wool yarn that I have been looking for an excuse to buy. The scarf came out beautifully. I will update this post later with the images, etc. and one day, I will actually crack open the knitting machine and save my poor hands!

Knitting Machine Watch II

Ok so it finally arrived. My knitting machine is here! I was so excited I tore open the package right there on my desk. And as the ebay description promised, it was mint-in-box--except it didn't include the instruction manual. Can you believe it! No manual! I was incredibly frustrated, so I looked on the Silver Reed web site and spoke with the closest dealer, Lora Kinnan at DaisyKnits who walked me through the process.
